Sharing files in messages

What you can send in a message, how Robin checks files, and what to do when a file is blocked.

You can attach files to any message. Robin accepts images and PDFs, up to five files in one message, and up to 10 MB for each file. Each file shows in the conversation as a small card with its name and size. The other person opens or downloads it from there.

How Robin checks files

Robin checks every file that you attach before the message sends. Robin looks at what is inside a file, not only at its name. Robin also removes hidden data from your photos, such as the place where you took them.

When a file is blocked

If a check cannot confirm that a file is safe for the other person to open, Robin blocks the file. The message does not send. Robin keeps your message text. Remove the blocked file and send again.

A blocked file does not mean that you did anything wrong. Files collect risky content in ordinary ways. A form from the web, or a document that went through several tools, can carry it. The sender usually has no idea.

  • Make a fresh copy and try again. Export the document again from your editor, or print it to a new PDF. A fresh copy usually passes.
  • If Robin continues to block a file that you trust, message Jon in the app. He can see what happened.

How long Robin keeps files

Robin keeps a file for 90 days from the day you send it. After that, Robin deletes the file from storage. The message stays in your conversation, but the file is no longer there to open. If you need a file for longer, download it and keep your own copy.

This is a privacy choice, not a storage limit. Files often carry sensitive content. Robin moves your files between you. It is not the place where they live.

What a check cannot promise

A file that passes is not proven safe. No check can promise that. Be careful with files from people that you met recently, on Robin as anywhere. If a file or a message feels wrong, use Report on that coach's profile so that we can act.

Questions
