Host and participant: what the words mean

Every Robin session has two sides:

• The host is the coach whose session it is. The session runs on their session type, at a time from their availability. Any records it produces, such as a transcript or a recording, are the host's responsibility to keep and protect.
• The participant is the one who books it.

Where "coach" and "practice client" come from

Hosts name the roles on each of their session types, in their own words. A practice session might name them coach and practice client. A supervision session might name them supervisor and supervisee. A mentoring session might name them mentor and mentee. Robin shows exactly what the host wrote. The words on a booking card are theirs, not ours.

That is why a booking page reads like this:

Practice · 60 min Sam: coach · you: practice client

Sam named those roles on their Practice session type. If you book it, that is the relationship you have both agreed to for that hour.

When you only see "host" and "participant"

Some session types do not name roles. An intro chat or an ad-hoc call has no professional role to declare, so those sessions show the neutral pair:

Intro · 20/30 min Sam: host · you: participant

It means only that nobody has declared a professional role for that session. You are two coaches who meet, and one of you hosts.

Naming roles on your own session types

Edit any of your session types under Scheduling → Session types. You will find the two role fields there, with suggestions to start from. The fields are optional and free text, and you can word them however fits the work. Whatever you write is what your partners see when they book.
