How much does becoming a coach cost?

Build a route-specific training budget using dated UK course-fee examples, tuition exclusions and a blank budget for practice, supervision and other costs.

Build a budget for the route you're considering. An eight-hour introduction and a two-year part-time master's involve different commitments, and tuition is only one part of either budget.

The examples below are providers' own quotations, not a UK average, a price range for becoming a coach or recommendations. Confirm the fee and inclusions for your chosen course before paying.

Four dated fee examples

Animas and Henley quotations are dated 8 September 2026. CDI and Birkbeck fees were reviewed on 9 September 2026; Birkbeck's figures apply to the 2026–27 academic year and home part-time students.

Animas includes mentoring, supervision, practice groups and assessment in its quotation. Henley's programme requires at least 20 hours of coaching practice outside the workshops. Birkbeck requires access to suitable clients and external independent supervision; ask who arranges supervision and whether you pay separately.

Birkbeck says continuing-year fees may rise with inflation, so twice the first-year fee is not a fixed two-year quote. Its 2027–28 entry fees were not yet confirmed. The figures above should not be applied to another fee-status category or intake.

Before comparing prices, ask each provider to confirm teaching, mentoring, supervision, assessment, resits, materials and any membership or accreditation application fees in writing.

If you want a shorter commitment

Co-Active Foundations describes an eight-hour experiential course with no prerequisites that can be taken on its own. Ask for its current price; don't assume an introductory course is cheap or that you need to take one before exploring another route.

An unpaid practice conversation with a willing adult has no tuition fee, though time and incidental costs may remain. Keep it low-stakes, disclose that you're a beginner, agree confidentiality and stopping limits, and seek separate recording consent. It is exploration, not assessed training; credential eligibility needs a body-specific check.

A fictional AI client is another independent option. Check the tool's access conditions and charges rather than assuming free access.

Costs beyond tuition

Tax and exclusions. Compare fees on the same basis. Check whether VAT is included, added separately or not charged. Add travel and accommodation for in-person sessions where they aren't included.

Time away from paid work. Practice, reading, reflection and assessment take time. If you would reduce paid hours to study, include the income you would give up. The calendar exercise helps you identify those commitments.

Mentoring and supervision. Animas includes ten mentoring hours and group supervision. Birkbeck requires external independent supervision. Check the arrangement and any separate charge for your course rather than assuming it matches either example.

Professional-body fees. Course completion and individual accreditation are separate. Check the body's current application, membership and renewal fees for the credential you want, and ask your provider which, if any, are included in tuition.

Insurance. The Global Code of Ethics, version 4, expects members to hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance for the countries in which they operate, where such insurance is available. This is a professional-code expectation, not a determination of legal requirements for your circumstances. Check the requirements applicable to your work and location and obtain a quote.

Self-employment. If you intend to work independently, consider accounting, a website, scheduling or video tools, and time spent finding clients. Include only the costs your proposed business would incur; training does not guarantee an income.

Before paying a deposit

Recheck the fees, tax treatment, payment plan and inclusions for the course and intake you want. Ask what remains to be paid after the course ends, then compare your completed budgets rather than the headline tuition figures.
